We were not actually made an offer that we couldn’t afford to refuse, but we did find ourselves travelling in an Aluguer (local mini bus) back from Ribeiro Brava to our anchorage at Tarrafal with a dead pig’s head! It was one of our more memorable trips. The passengers were a lively bunch and when it came time to deliver the pig’s head to its rightful owner the whole bus appeared to have an opinion on which was the best flat to leave it. Suffice to say the bus driver finally found someone to take the ‘package’ off his hands having knocked at three different doors in one of the tiny hamlets on our route. The road we travelled must have been recently laid as it was immaculate (which is more than could be said for the bus!) but it certainly wasn’t straight and it was scarily steep in places. Not good for vertigo!
