After 4 days in a marina we needed to escape to an anchorage – or at least do some sailing – so we slipped our lines on Friday and set off for Papagayo beach in the south of Lanzarote. We spent the trip there brushing and cleaning off red sand from poor Ocean Rainbow who would have been mummified had we remained in the marina much longer! Papagayo beach is beautiful, unspoilt and deserted at night. The waters are crystal clear and we enjoyed snorkelling and swimming. An added bonus was to find Nocturne at anchor in the bay and be able to invite them on board for drinks and supper. Our second night at anchor wasn't quite so tranquil as the winds built up but it was still lovely. Today we had a bit of trouble hauling up the anchor as the chain had wrapped around a rock but we succeededa fter much to-ing and fro-ing. We sailed back to Arrecife in 20 - 26 knot winds and are now moored up in the marina as James gets organised for his trip back to UK.
