Well we did it, we hired a car to explore the island - we took to the roads and hairpin bends of St Lucia! Our little car struggled with the gradient, the buses overtook us but we managed to overhaul pedestrians – but we did have an unfair advantage – air conditioning! It was a brilliant 12 hours, we saw spectacular views as we made our way to Zaka’s in Soufriere where we had coffee, we went further down the coast and saw permaculture in operation (Font Doux), experienced another ground provision lunch (this time in Choiseul), visited an old colonial property (Balenbouche), drove through amazing rainforest, saw fishermen making nets in Laborie, drank a Piton between the Pitons at Dasheen and on the way home stopped to watch a ‘tiny’ green flash as the sun set over Marigot. We even came back with souvenirs – nutmeg and a coco pod! And the final plus, Claire’s computer (which was horribly ill) has recovered with a little help from Computer World in Rodney Bay and a lot of help from Martin Vine (Martin's Helpdesk) back in good ol’ Bristol. All is well with the world.
