We rented a 4x4 truck and took off for the day with Moody Mistress. We first travelled north to Gotomeer to view flamginos, drove to Rincon (oldest town in Bonaire), visited the Cadushy Distillery and tasted their liqueur made from the Kardushi cactus (very medicinal taste, we didn’t buy any!), drove to the National Park and trekked across sharp lava rock and dusty desert trails with amazing cacti everywhere, spent time at a great blowhole and visited the little museum. We then took to the truck again to find some amazing caves with Indian inscriptions, stalagmites and ‘tites and the obligatory bats. Next it was off south to Sorobon where we finally saw flamingos close up, drove through the mangrove swamp and up the western coast to see the salt pans and huge mountains of salt ready for export. All in all, quite a day which was wrapped up nicely at the Cruisers Burger Evening at Zazu.
