How did Papillon ever survive the brutal regime of the Transportation Camp (prison) that made St Laurent du Maroni famous?  On Saturday, we had an amazing VIP guided tour of the prison which brought notoriety to the Maroni River area: man’s inhumanity to man will never cease to amaze us.   On a completely different note, our welcome to St Laurent town has been one of great warmth complete with speeches, presentations (flowers & rum etc) and a fabulous Reception hosted by the Ministry of Tourism.  On Sunday, we then had a chance to reciprocate some of the town’s hospitality by showing a number of locals around Ocean Rainbow …..  strangely none of them showed any interest in swapping places with us!!
