One of the trips organised by the Nereid Rally took our group on a trip up the Mazaruni River to the Marshall Falls. Our excellent guide, Bal, arrived with his water taxi ‘Delta 2’ and whisked us off to show us the sights - the prison, quarries, dredging for gold, famous homes, forts – as well as giving us a bit of Guyana’s history. The furthest point of the trip was the Marshall Falls, not exactly huge but we had the best water massage ever and it was fun! To get there was fun too as we had to shoot the Mazaruni rapids. Quite an experience. We were instructed to do up our lifejackets, hold on tight and without further ado Bal took off at high speed, throwing the boat left and right as he raced in and out of rapids. The noise was incredible with the water crashing under the boat, spray up the sides and the rocks almost close enough to touch. Another great day in Guyana.
