We've just returned from holiday!! We took off for a few days living without WiFi, phones, shops and people. Where have we been? An abandoned leper colony! 6 miles off the Venezuelan coastline and 7 miles from Chaguaramas is an island called Chacachacare where the Hansenian Settlement was established in 1924 by Dominican nuns. The Settlement was closed in 1984 and since then nature and termites have gradually re-claimed the buildings but we did manage to explore the ones still standing close to the shoreline, including the hospital. It's a very beautiful island with lots of bays - no need to share your space with another yacht! In fact we only saw 3 other yachts and a handful of fishing boats in the 5 days of our visit. Who would have thought it possible in Trinidad? If you've time to read more follow this link to the RTW August page.
