Sparkling Sail

Working hard in Carriacou!

We had a great overnight sail from Le Marin, Martinique to Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou – 125nm in 25 hours from starting the engine in Le Marin and weighing anchor to turning off the engine in Tyrrel Bay having set our anchor.  We had a 3 hour period with no wind so motorsailed and a further period with very light winds but we had periods when we were romping along between 6 and 7 knots.   The acceleration zone between St Lucia and St Vincent was quite lively but the one between Martinique and St Lucia was so gentle that we were lucky enough to see 3 very large pods of dolphins.  An astonishing sight as they churned up the sea and carried on along their way, sadly not stopping long enough for a photo opportunity.   We did also spot ‘the cousins’ who are guests on Merlyn III off the coast of St Lucia but they were in stealth mode (no AIS or VHF) so we had to resort to the human voice in order to communicate!  We should meet up with them again in a couple of days which will be fun.
